Prabal Gurung Spring 2027

For Spring 2027, Prabal Gurung returned to clean lines, vivid colour and expressive draping, finding freedom in clothes that celebrate the body rather than restrict it.

Inside Petzel Gallery, an intense red light suggested the beginning of something new. Gurung’s Spring 2027 collection followed that sense of renewal, bringing a renewed clarity to his runway work. Clean lines met gestural, midcentury-inspired shapes, while blocks of vivid colour gave the collection an immediate energy.

The designer drew on two very different early-morning images: Nepalese women washing shawls at communal water fountains and a Brooklyn raver dancing with a feathered boa, jasmine and marigolds woven through her hair. Their shared sense of joy became an exploration of freedom — not as a slogan, but as the ability to inhabit your body on your own terms. That idea came through in strapless maxi dresses that wrapped and twisted around the figure, creating sculptural silhouettes with an almost ancient, regal quality.

Eveningwear pushed that idea further. Bubble-shaped jackets and gowns transformed the flowers and feathers associated with the raver into intricate embellishment, while sheer layers hinted at structure beneath without making corsetry the focus. Instead, the clothes appeared almost casually draped, as though complicated silhouettes had been created through instinct rather than rigid construction.

After seasons in which corsetry and overt structure have dominated the conversation, Gurung offered another idea of glamour: one built around movement, colour and the freedom of the body. ‘Ray of Light’ felt like a return to the essentials of his design language, but with enough drama and imagination to make them feel newly discovered.
