Matières Fécales Spring 2027

Matières Fécales took over Paris’ Place de la République for Spring 2027, turning the city’s protest square into a stage for “The 99 Percent”. Hannah Rose Dalton and Steven Raj Bhaskaran built the collection around identity, inequality and the designer’s own journey from poverty to Paris fashion, presenting 99 looks on 99 models of colour.

The clothes moved between stark monochrome, neon scarlet and distressed streetwear, with sari-inspired draping appearing across jersey dresses and tulle gowns. Leather, shredded denim and logo sweatshirts brought a harder edge, while veiled looks, exaggerated body shapes and spiky faux piercings pushed the collection firmly into Matières Fécales’ surreal world.

The show ended with Bhaskaran walking alongside his mother, sister and young niece, followed by a gold lamé dress carrying two slumped figures in suits. It was theatrical, political and deliberately confrontational, but beneath the spectacle was a collection interested in who gets to define luxury, and who gets to be seen within it.
