Magda Butrym Spring 2027

For Spring 2027, Magda Butrym brought her distinctly Polish perspective to New York, balancing sensual dressing with softer layers, nostalgic references and a new relationship with the city.

Magda Butrym’s first New York runway show arrived alongside the opening of the brand’s first US flagship in SoHo, marking a significant moment for the Warsaw-based label. With New York already its largest direct-to-consumer market, the collection became an opportunity to consider what happens when a Polish fashion language encounters the city’s particular energy. Butrym found a bridge between the two through the work of Polish artist Natalia LL, whose move to New York in the 1970s and pioneering approach to feminist and conceptual art offered a parallel to the designer’s own arrival in the city.

That connection brought a noticeably softer mood to the collection. Where Butrym’s previous season placed greater emphasis on dramatic outerwear and dense textures, Spring 2027 introduced sheer silk, lingerie-inspired pieces and delicate apron-like layers. The apron became particularly personal, recalling the garments worn by Butrym’s grandmothers, but was reimagined for contemporary wardrobes: layered over jeans and a T-shirt, worn above slips and lace-trimmed separates, or tucked beneath tailored outerwear.

Nostalgia also appeared through wallpaper florals and distinctly feminine 1980s silhouettes, with faux-fur cuffs adding texture and a sense of dressing up. Tonal crochet underwear worn over tights blurred the line between lingerie and outerwear, while the contrast between delicate pieces and more structured garments remained central to the collection. Classic leather was joined by lightweight foil-coated nylon, giving Butrym’s familiar outerwear vocabulary a more modern and less weighty expression.

The result was a collection built around contrasts that have long informed Butrym’s work: sensuality and structure, intimacy and outerwear, Polish memory and New York modernity. Rather than simply adapting her aesthetic for a new market, the designer used the occasion to explore another side of the brand, one that feels more personal and layered. With the SoHo flagship and New York runway marking its arrival, Spring 2027 positioned Magda Butrym within the city while keeping its Polish identity firmly intact.
