Karl Lagerfeld Fall 2026

Hun Kim’s latest collection for Karl Lagerfeld opened with the kind of piece that makes fashion editors grin and stylists quietly panic: a pristine white shirt, elongated and sculpted like a tailcoat, magnificent to look at, maddening to iron. Styled over glossy black trousers or a croc-textured miniskirt, it set the tone for a season that blended wit, precision and the kind of unexpected sophistication that Lagerfeld himself adored. Kim, now fully confident in his stewardship of the house, found his narrative in the mountains - the polished, après-ski glamour of the 1980s, when elegance was still the unofficial dress code of alpine resorts.

“I think somehow we lost that sensibility,” Kim said backstage, referring to the bygone era when people dressed up for cocktails rather than content. This nostalgia translated into sculptural tailoring and eveningwear that felt disciplined yet playful. Pagoda shoulders, rounded sleeves, and off-the-shoulder necklines gave classic shapes new dynamism, while intricate seams and flashes of volume kept the silhouettes alive. One standout was a black sequin minidress with a detachable silk overskirt, cut open at the front for an insouciant reveal of leg - transformable, sensual, and eminently wearable. Elsewhere, a faux-fur bolero and double-faced wool vest could be layered into a single textural trench, marrying Lagerfeld’s precision with Kim’s modular ingenuity.

If early years at the house flirted with cartoonish branding, the Choupette motifs, the oversized logos, this season felt refined and assured. Logos appeared only as whispers: a KL coin tucked discreetly into a loafer, part of a collaboration with American heritage label G.H. Bass, both under the G-III Apparel Group umbrella. The result was a collection that honoured Lagerfeld’s unmistakable codes: sharp tailoring, crisp shirts, the eternal black-and-white palette, but filtered through a contemporary lens. Kim may have been inspired by the past, but the effect was unmistakably forward-looking: cool, elegant, and just rebellious enough to make Karl proud.
