Genaro Rivas Spring 2027 - Berlin Fashion Week

Genaro Rivas presented his latest menswear collection, State of Impact, during Berlin Fashion Week, exploring themes of rupture, reconstruction and resilience through experimental materials, reconstructed tailoring and contemporary craftsmanship.

Held at The Space Kudamm, the presentation reflected the industrial character of Berlin, with the collection’s focus on exposed structures, unconventional details and material innovation complemented by the venue’s raw concrete surroundings.

Throughout State of Impact, Rivas continued to develop his approach to sustainable fashion, exploring how existing materials can be transformed into new forms. Tailored silhouettes were reworked with visible construction details, while exposed zippers, safety pins and plexiglass elements became part of the collection’s visual language.

One of the most notable pieces was a pair of trousers constructed entirely from zippers, turning a familiar functional detail into the central feature of the garment. The collection also revisited ideas from Rivas’ previous London presentation during London Fashion Week, where the designer explored similar themes of material transformation and unconventional construction. The shards of plexiglass that appeared in his earlier work returned in a red and transparent top for State of Impact, creating a visual connection between the two collections.

Material experimentation remained central throughout the collection. Organic denim, reconstructed tailoring, a hand-painted coat and a second-hand leather jacket appeared alongside textiles developed in collaboration with Banofi, Ponda, Savian and LEMAR. The collection featured BLUEBELL fabric, woven using SEAQUAL® recycled polyester yarn, highlighting Rivas’ continued focus on responsible innovation.

The closing look brought the collection’s approach to reuse into focus, with a garment created from three reclaimed chandeliers, transforming discarded materials into a final runway statement.

For State of Impact, Rivas also drew inspiration from Berlin-born Expressionist artist Walter Gramatté, translating elements of his 1918 work Peter with a Gunshot Wound in His Forehead through embroidery, appliqué and fragmented details.

Based between London and Peru, Rivas continues to explore the relationship between craftsmanship, sustainability and contemporary menswear. State of Impact marks another step in the designer’s ongoing exploration of how fashion can be reimagined through material innovation and thoughtful construction.
