Anna Sui Spring 2027

After more than four decades in fashion, Anna Sui remains driven by curiosity, bringing together romance, old-world craft and new digital techniques for Spring 2027.

Anna Sui’s Spring 2027 collection, “Wonderment”, began with an unexpected discovery. While looking through an old issue of Vogue, Sui noticed a series of fantasy paintings by Howard Gardiner Cushing decorating the walls of The Ledges, his eccentric Newport home. From there came a world of Art Nouveau, fairy tales, water lilies and mother-of-pearl, references that Sui absorbed and transformed rather than simply reproduced.

The resulting clothes were romantic but never overly precious. Mauve, lavender, old rose, cream and denim blue moved across lace, crochet, point d’esprit and satin, while sheer mesh revealed flashes of fluorescent lingerie. Appliquéd denim and jorts disrupted the prettiness, while Erickson Beamon translated the luminosity of the paintings into mother-of-pearl, abalone and shell jewellery. John Fluevog added boudoir-like slippers made from vintage textiles and fur trim.

Layering gave the collection its characteristic sense of play. Iridescent T-shirts met satin-striped plaid and chartreuse crushed velvet, with lingerie, denim and homespun textures deliberately colliding. Sui’s use of digital technology was equally exploratory: new techniques allowed jacquard, print, embroidery and sequins to exist within a single textile, alongside hand crochet, New York embroidery and hand-dyed flowers. Rather than replacing craftsmanship, the technology simply expanded what Sui could make.

Presented at the National Arts Club, the collection’s mix of historical romance and contemporary experimentation felt entirely at home. Sui’s greatest strength remains her ability to combine references that should not necessarily belong together and make them feel instinctive. “Wonderment” captured that curiosity perfectly — playful, slightly unruly and still genuinely interested in discovering what fashion can do next. After more than four decades in fashion, Anna Sui remains driven by curiosity, bringing together romance, old-world craft and new digital techniques for Spring 2027.
