Taakk Men’s Spring 2027

For Spring/Summer 2027, TAAKK continued its exploration of fabric as the starting point of design, presenting The Ability of Discovery as a study in perception, transformation and material intelligence. Under Takuya Morikawa, the collection turned inward, drawing on personal references such as flowers and the photographic work of Irving Penn to examine how familiar forms shift when viewed through a different lens.

Rather than translating these inspirations literally, Morikawa treated them as methods of looking. The lifecycle of flowers—bloom, change and disappearance—became a framework for thinking about time and impermanence, while Penn’s observational clarity informed the collection’s focus on restraint and attention to detail.

At the core of the collection was TAAKK’s ongoing commitment to textile experimentation. Fabric was not treated as surface or support, but as origin. Through weaving, structure and finishing processes, garments were constructed to reveal movement and depth directly within the material itself.

One of the season’s key developments was the use of embroidered structures, where cutwork and layered embroidery were combined in matching fabrics to create architectural surfaces. Rather than decorative embellishment, these techniques generated volume, shadow and dimensionality, giving garments a sculptural presence without relying on external form.

The brand’s signature gradient textiles also returned, evolving beyond colour transition into shifts in material composition. Within a single fabric, texture, weave and tone changed simultaneously, dissolving clear boundaries between surface and structure. The result was a series of garments that felt in constant visual motion, depending on angle, light and proximity.

Collaborations added further texture to the collection’s material language, including work with Japanese label 4ºC and artist Tomohiro Nakagaki, but these remained secondary to the central investigation: how matter itself can carry meaning.

What defined The Ability of Discovery was not narrative, but attention. By focusing on existing forms—flowers, fabric, the body—and revisiting them with precision and curiosity, TAAKK continued to refine a design language built on transformation rather than invention.

Spring/Summer 2027 reinforced the brand’s position within contemporary menswear as one of its most technically rigorous voices, where clothing is less about representation and more about how we perceive what is already in front of us.
