Proenza Schouler Spring 2027
Rachel Scott’s second collection for Proenza Schouler felt noticeably freer than her restrained debut for the house. Inspired by the particular freedom of New York women, the collection treated dressing as something without fixed rules: a gown could feel casual, while everyday pieces could take on an evening quality. Saturated ultramarine, chrome yellow, guava, coral, black and cream gave the collection a confident, occasionally unexpected energy.
The body remained central to the clothes. Sharp shoulders softened into curving hips, while lithe dresses, cowls, pleats and flounces created space rather than restricting the figure. Diaphanous layers and pale sequins moved lightly around the body, creating a sensuality that felt feminine without becoming overly polished or overtly provocative. As Scott put it, the clothes were designed to adapt to the body rather than dictate how it should move.
Craft provided much of the collection’s character. Tigers appeared through hand-knitting, woven intarsia, pleating and tufting, while roses began as cyanotypes made from flowers photographed on a New York rooftop before being transformed into prints on organza. The PS1 also returned in a softer form as the PS1 Walker, with reduced hardware, supple construction and hand-finished details that referenced the original without simply reproducing it.
For Spring 2027, Scott is beginning to establish her own relationship with Proenza Schouler without losing sight of what made the house distinctive. The result feels sensual, considered and distinctly New York: familiar codes loosened enough to create something that feels relevant rather than nostalgic.
