Jean Paul Gaultier Fall 2026

At Paris Fashion Week, the Fall 2026 collection for Jean Paul Gaultier arrived with more anticipation than usual. Dutch designer Duran Lantink is only in his second season as creative director, and his debut last year was met with sharply divided reactions. This time, the pressure was palpable. Yet what unfolded on the runway felt far more assured, a collection that balanced the house’s irreverent legacy with Lantink’s own sculptural instincts.

The starting point, Lantink explained, came from a conversation with the house’s founder, Jean Paul Gaultier, who once recounted finding a perfectly cut jacket in a market. From that anecdote grew the idea of “madame masculinity,” a theme that guided the collection’s sharp tailoring and gender blurred silhouettes. Suits opened the show in confident form, with curved shoulders and cinched waists that dipped dramatically downward, establishing the collection’s sculptural line. Shoulders often hovered away from the body, breasts and hips were exaggerated into an S shaped profile, and circular structures appeared around the torso like orbiting frames. The tension between masculine tailoring and feminine form created the kind of provocation long associated with the Gaultier name.

Elsewhere, Lantink layered in a mix of references that pushed the wardrobe further. Ski inspired pieces introduced geometric colour blocking and technical fabrics, while knit bodysuits in Fair Isle patterns nodded to winter sport aesthetics. Western touches appeared in subtle styling choices, including small cowboy hats that punctuated the closing looks. Eveningwear leaned into drama with velour gowns cinched by concentric rings of fabric and sculptural red dresses with bulbous shoulders. Even the footwear carried a playful twist, with pumps designed around the idea of a broken heel. The result was a collection that felt both more disciplined and more confident than Lantink’s debut, suggesting that his version of Gaultier may yet find its footing between the house’s provocative past and its evolving future.
