Imane Ayissi Fall 2026 Couture
For Fall/Winter 2025–2026 Couture, Imane Ayissi presented Ikorrok, a collection exploring humanity's relationship with nature through couture craftsmanship, biodegradable materials and references to African artistic traditions.
Named after the Ewondo word for a garden left to regenerate, Ikorrok reflects the idea of allowing nature time to recover rather than continuing to exploit it. The concept informed both the collection's narrative and its construction, with Ayissi examining how haute couture can respond to environmental concerns without compromising artistry.
Natural motifs appeared throughout the collection in the form of floral embroidery, brocades, appliqués and intricate beading inspired by Yoruba craftsmanship. Alongside these decorative elements, Ayissi explored more sustainable approaches to couture through garments made from French sheep's wool felt, embroidered with porcelain, semi-precious stones and urushi lacquer in collaboration with visual artist Aline Putot-Toupry.
The runway presentation also carried a personal dimension. Opening with an aircraft safety announcement, the show paid tribute to Ayissi's late mother, who worked as both a model and flight attendant. Flowing silks, raffia fringes and dramatic headpieces evoked movement and flight, adding another layer to the collection's narrative.
Elsewhere, the designer revisited signatures that have become synonymous with his work. Tie-dye techniques referenced his Cameroonian heritage, while sculptural silhouettes demonstrated his continued interest in volume and proportion. One standout look combined intricate all-over beading with vivid floral motifs, puffed royal blue sleeves and a full silk skirt, showcasing the craftsmanship at the heart of the collection.
With Ikorrok, Ayissi continued to position couture as both an artistic and cultural practice, bringing together environmental themes, African craftsmanship and Parisian haute couture through a collection centred on renewal rather than excess.
