Chanel Fall 2026 Couture
For his second haute couture collection at Chanel, Matthieu Blazy turned to fairy tales, using childhood stories to explore both the mythology of Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel and the enduring fantasy of haute couture itself.
Presented during Paris Couture Week, the collection began with an old book of fairy tales discovered in Chanel's Paris apartment. Blazy used it as a starting point to imagine the founder's own life as a modern fable, asking whether her remarkable rise could itself be read as a story of transformation.
Nature became the thread connecting the collection. A runway framed by oversized flowers and a towering beanstalk introduced garments embroidered with climbing vines, blossoms and insects, extending the botanical language that has begun to define Blazy's vision for the house. Rather than relying on overt spectacle, these motifs were woven into the craftsmanship of the garments through delicate embroidery, textured tweeds and carefully concealed details.
Throughout the collection, Blazy reinforced one of Chanel couture's defining principles: luxury revealed through craftsmanship rather than excess. Jackets concealed illustrated linings, embroidered silk labels resembled handwritten studio notes, and frayed finishes referenced Gabrielle Chanel's famously uncompromising approach to fittings. These subtle details rewarded close observation, offering a more intimate interpretation of couture.
Accessories carried the narrative further, with minaudières shaped as sleeping bears and chickens, while sculptural heels referenced butterflies and golden eggs, drawing directly from the visual language of classic fairy tales without losing the elegance expected of the house.
While the collection embraced fantasy, it remained grounded in Chanel's atelier tradition. Blazy balanced storytelling with meticulous construction, demonstrating that couture can feel imaginative without sacrificing precision. The result was a collection that celebrated not only the romance of haute couture, but also the process of making it.
