Carolina Herrera Spring 2027

For Spring 2027, Wes Gordon celebrated Carolina Herrera’s 45th anniversary by revisiting the house’s glamorous 1980s heritage, bringing its Park Avenue codes into a more playful and contemporary wardrobe.

For Carolina Herrera’s 45th anniversary, Wes Gordon looked back to the glamorous world that defined the founder’s early years, but without treating the archive as a costume. The David H. Koch Theater was transformed into an exaggerated vision of Park Avenue, with thousands of yellow tulips lining the runway, setting the tone for a collection built around Herrera’s instinct for polished dressing with a sense of occasion. Gordon described the clothes as having a sophisticated camp to them, an attitude that allowed the house’s more extravagant codes to feel deliberately playful rather than overly serious.

The collection moved through distinct moods, beginning with graphic black, white and taxi-cab yellow before softening into pistachio, dusty pink, salmon and baby blue. Polka dots appeared throughout, while tweed, lace, pointelle knits and chiffon were used across both day and evening looks. A yellow tweedy chiffon and ribbon-knit set, pencil skirts with matching cardigans and bralettes, and airy chiffon tunics gave the collection a sense of movement, while a pistachio lace body-con dress offered a more restrained kind of glamour. By the finale, the volume increased dramatically, with sculptural organza ruffles delivering the full Herrera effect.

Some of the strongest looks brought the house’s formal and casual languages together. The signature white shirt appeared with cummerbund cigarette trousers, while embroidered lady jackets with beaded fringed collars and playful frog or zebra brooches were paired with denim and textured pencil skirts. It was a useful reminder that Herrera’s codes do not have to exist exclusively within traditional occasion dressing. Gordon continues to broaden the wardrobe while preserving the polish, femininity and wit that make the house recognisable.

Collaborations added another layer to the anniversary collection. The Warhol Foundation’s portrait of Carolina Herrera became an embroidered mini shift dress and matching tiny top-handle bag, while The New Yorker inspired colourful logo knits and a yellow slip dress featuring the cover from the date of Herrera’s first show. Jewellery by Taffin brought further colour and eccentricity to the looks. Taken together, the collection made a convincing case for dressing up simply because it is enjoyable — a suitably celebratory way to mark 45 years of Herrera.
