Song for the Mute Spring 2027

For Spring/Summer 2027, Song for the Mute looked towards the spaces between memory and belonging. Titled Summer Blues, the collection moved between France and Tunisia, exploring childhood recollections, family holidays and the feeling of returning somewhere familiar while still feeling slightly removed from it.

The Australian label built the collection around everyday coastal life rather than a romanticised vision of summer. Fishing communities, seaside towns and the routines of life by the water informed the designs, from drying nets and market stalls to working clothes shaped by sun, salt and repetition.

That influence appeared throughout the silhouettes. Maritime clothing, workwear and sportswear references were combined with more tailored pieces, creating a wardrobe that felt practical but personal. Hooded bibs, sailor anoraks and fisherman trousers sat alongside trench coats, tabbed blazers and barn jackets, while softer pieces such as sundresses and skirts added contrast.

The collection’s strength came through its sense of familiarity. Rather than presenting garments as untouched objects, Song for the Mute focused on the way clothing changes through wear. Fabrics appeared softened by time, with sun-dried slub herringbone cotton, dip-dyed cotton, lightweight summer twills and faded checks reflecting the textures of coastal environments.

The colour palette followed the landscape that inspired the collection: olive tones recalling fishing nets, muted blues reflecting the sea, dusty neutrals suggesting roads and faded buildings, alongside softened reds, yellows and blues drawn from painted boats, market crates and summer fabrics.

The collaboration with adidas Originals continued within the same world, bringing sporting references into the collection’s coastal setting. Football-inspired polos, softened tracksuits, bomber jackets and running pieces were reimagined through a more relaxed lens, suggesting clothing worn before and after activity rather than only for performance.

With Summer Blues, Song for the Mute created a collection centred on the relationship between clothing and memory. It explored the idea that places leave traces behind - in landscapes, in routines and in the garments we continue to wear long after the moment has passed.
