Chopova Lowena Spring/Summer 2027

For Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena, being called a witch is hardly an insult. For Spring/Summer 2027, the designers embraced the label entirely, looking to female figures from Slavic folklore who were once used to establish rules, protect homes or mark the changing seasons. Baba Yaga, Morana and other sinister spirits became the unlikely muses for a collection that felt part folk tale, part suburban bowling night and entirely Chopova Lowena.

The setting made the collision even clearer. A London bowling alley was transformed into something resembling an enchanted clubhouse, with branches, totemic objects and an atmosphere that sat somewhere between eerie and nostalgic. On the runway, Polish folk dress appeared through oversized puff sleeves, ruffles and bursts of beadwork, while the duo's familiar pleated carabiner skirt returned in tapestry, recalling the label's early collections. Morana, the Slavic goddess associated with winter and the arrival of spring, was translated into a cropped shrug, low-slung skirt and white corset with boning mapped across the body like ribs. Elsewhere, a black dress covered in hand-cut and laser-cut chiffon spikes offered a softer interpretation of Baba Yaga's menace.

But there was plenty of the everyday hiding beneath the folklore. Bowling shirts and house dresses borrowed from 1950s bowling culture, with Marion Ladewig — one of the era's pioneering female bowling stars — providing a particularly unexpected reference point. That retro sportswear sat naturally alongside Chopova Lowena's more elaborate pieces, continuing the brand's habit of putting seemingly incompatible worlds together and making the collision feel intentional. A collaboration with Dr. Martens added another recognisable piece of British subculture to the mix.

Perhaps the most interesting development was the collection's modularity. The elaborate looks were constructed from components that could be removed, rearranged and worn independently: snap-on aprons and carabiner panels could be clipped onto jeans, allowing the wearer to decide just how deep into the Chopova Lowena universe they wanted to go. It is a fitting idea for a label that has always encouraged its woman to dress with a certain degree of agency. Even the new Clubhouse merchandise, with its irreverent messaging, plays into that attitude. For Spring/Summer 2027, Chopova Lowena proved once again that folklore doesn't have to belong in the past — sometimes it just needs a bowling alley, a pair of platform boots and a little bit of arsenic.
