Brunello Cucinelli’s Spring/Summer 2027 collection is built around a familiar Cucinelli idea - luxury that does not need to announce itself — but the craftsmanship underneath the apparent ease is unusually elaborate. The collection moves between Nordic maritime references, workwear and metropolitan tailoring, bringing sailor stripes, utility shapes and relaxed denim into contact with organza, raffia and intricate crochet. The interesting contradiction is that many of the clothes look almost instinctively wearable, while their construction demands an extraordinary amount of technique.

Crochet becomes the clearest expression of that tension. Traditional techniques are pushed into less expected territory through raffia and cane webbing, materials more commonly associated with furniture or summer accessories than couture-level clothing. They appear in jackets, wrap skirts and botanical motifs, while Viennese canework inspires diagonal structures across knitwear. Elsewhere, honeycomb and mesh textures are reshaped to create volume and transparency. The result is decorative without becoming overly precious, particularly when these elaborate surfaces are paired with roomy jeans, cargo trousers and straightforward cotton pieces.

The collection also benefits from its relaxed approach to proportion. Balloon and flared skirts, cropped cargo trousers, safari jackets and lightweight bomber silhouettes give the craft somewhere to breathe, while organza outerwear, striped poplin and denim keep the wardrobe grounded in everyday dressing. The palette follows the same philosophy: rope, ivory, khaki, cardamom and clay form the foundation, interrupted by primary red and brighter blues, with gold and sequins providing flashes of evening polish. It is a carefully controlled wardrobe rather than a collection of isolated statement pieces.

Cucinelli’s strength here is knowing how much technique to conceal. The collection is not asking the wearer to admire the labour behind every stitch; instead, that labour is used to make familiar clothes feel subtly different. SS27 therefore works less as a reinvention of the Cucinelli formula than as a refinement of its central proposition: sophisticated materials and exceptional craftsmanship made to look relaxed, useful and almost effortless. The more complicated the making becomes, the easier the finished clothes appear.
